The Joy and Responsibility of Leading Multiple Ministries—And the Need for Leaders

As a pastor, one of the most fulfilling aspects of ministry is leading a variety of teams that serve and grow together in faith. But I also carry many responsibilities—some of which can stretch me thin. Today, I want to share a breakdown of the ministries under my care, and why we need more than just volunteers; we need ministry leaders to step up and take ownership of these areas.

Kids Ministry

Our Kids Ministry is one of the cornerstones of our church. Under Amanda’s leadership, Kids Zone covers a wide range of programs for different age groups:

Nursery (Ages 0-2): This is where our youngest children are cared for by loving hands. Our volunteers provide a safe environment for these little ones.

Little Learners (Ages 3-5), Jr. Kids (Grades 1-3), and Sr. Kids (Grades 4-6): These age groups have unique needs, and our goal is to make their experience in church both engaging and meaningful. Our teams work hard to bring the message of Jesus to them in a fun and impactful way.

While Amanda does an amazing job leading this overall ministry, you can see how managing this amount of volunteers puts an additional pressure on her time and energy.

Prayer Ministry

Rhona leads our prayer ministry, ensuring that prayer remains central to everything we do. Her team is dedicated and faithful, lifting up our church in prayer consistently. Rhona’s leadership is an incredible blessing to our church.

Administrative Support

Sarah is my go-to for administrative tasks, particularly for scheduling our Sunday mornings. She helps keep all the moving parts organized, but as we continue to grow, the load increases.

Worship Ministry

Worship is at the heart of our Sunday services, and it’s one of the most crucial roles we are looking to fill. While we are actively seeking to hire a part-time worship leader, we are working hard in the interim to ensure that our Sunday morning worship is done well and provides an atmosphere where people can connect deeply with God. This ministry is vital to our church’s mission, and we are committed to keeping it running smoothly during this transition period.

In the meantime, we’re looking for a volunteer who can help lead and support this ministry until we have a permanent leader in place.

Connecting Ministry

Our Connecting Ministry includes teams that ensure our church is a welcoming place:

Welcoming Team: This team helps everyone feel like they belong.

Setup & Teardown Team: This team manages the setup and teardown of our worship space. Their work behind the scenes is essential but heavy, and it requires a strong team.

Ushers: While this emerging team is still developing, the few volunteers who have stepped in will assist with key elements such as offering, counting, and communion, all while creating a respectful and organized worship environment.

But here’s the challenge: we currently don’t have anyone overseeing our Connecting Team as a whole. This is a vital area of our church life, and it’s an added weight on my shoulders as I try to manage the individual pieces. What we need is a dedicated ministry leader to take on the responsibility of overseeing this team, ensuring its smooth operation each week.

Tech Ministry

Technology plays a vital role in our services, both during and after. This team ensures everything runs smoothly—mixing sound, ensuring clear video and recording, and managing slides. However, as we continue to expand, we need a dedicated ministry leader to take charge of this growing area. You may have noticed that over the last several months, I’ve often been running the slides from my iPad during services. This is a responsibility I need to pass on to the tech team, with a ministry leader ensuring it’s properly managed, allowing me to focus on other areas of our Sunday service.

Youth and Small Groups—A Call for Leadership

This is where I need your help the most. Youth ministry and small groups are becoming vital areas of our church that are under my direct responsibility, indicated by the dashed lines in the diagram. These ministries are necessary, but without dedicated leadership, they are extremely difficult to get off the ground.

These roles don’t just need volunteers to fill gaps—they need leaders who will take ownership, carry the vision, and grow these ministries. Without strong leaders, the burden remains on my shoulders, and it becomes harder to effectively lead the church in other areas.

A Call to Action

If you feel a tug to do more, to step beyond volunteering and into leadership, now is the time to step forward. We need people with a heart for ministry who are ready to take ownership of these areas, lead teams, and help grow the Kingdom through intentional service. This isn’t just about filling slots; it’s about joining the mission in a deeper way. We need leaders who can run with a vision and help guide others along the way.

If that sounds like you, or if you want to learn more about how you can get involved in leadership, I’d love to have a conversation with you. Let’s work together to strengthen these ministries and continue to grow our church community.
